Reading is important, students need to understand that reading should be an everyday
thing. Reading in the wild gives the idea to challenge students to get in more
reading time to improve their skills and overall love of books. It is discussed
how to squeeze more reading time into you day take a nook with you everywhere,
and when u find yourself sitting any waiting for a couple minutes at a time
that is the perfect time to break out your book (something I plan on trying) .
Another thing that is a good idea to carry with me is the idea of a reading
itinerary. I like the idea that this reflection doesn’t force students to read,
like the old reading logs did, but it is more of a tool for students to understand
and reflect on their own reading habits. This inquiry will help them understand
where they feel most comfortable reading, what they learned about their readings
etc. One thing that imam nervous about is getting the children to read outside
of school, I know when I was in elementary school I wanted nothing to do with
books outside of class and that hasn’t helped me in the long run to become a
better reader. Imwant to be able to get students interested in reading
individually because they want to, not because we are forcing them to.
