Jess Xiong – Warriors (Blog 3)

Jess Xiong – Warriors (Blog 3)

“Warriors” follow the story of Rusty, who is a a house cat. Rusty decides to abandon the life of living with humans and becomes a wild-cat in the forest. The story follows how he joins Thunderclan and receives an apprentice name, Firepaw. At the end of the first series book, Firepaw is declared a warrior and receives his new name, Fireheart.

I’ve always been interested in clans and how people defend their families. Although I am more of a Nicholas Sparks reader, these novels always seem to bring me back to my highschool days when I still read “Warriors”. In a way, these novels would bring out the imagination of children, especially kids the age of 10 and older. I feel that these books would be suitable for them and they would very much enjoy it.

This website I found, provides a lot of classroom activities and discussion for teachers who would decide to read this book in a classroom.

How I would use this in a classroom is, I would point out the main themes in each book. For example, the theme in this first series book is the cats being accustomed to someone who is an outsider. In life, we always have outsiders coming into our lives and some we are able to accept more than others and some just take more time to. So far, I’ve really enjoyed reading the series and remembering the little things I’ve forgotten from 4 years ago.
