Counting By 7’s- Gabriela Salgado

Counting By 7’s- Gabriela Salgado

I read the book Counting by 7’s by Holly Goldberg Sloan I think this text wanted readers to talk about some of the troubles young children are or can go through. Such as, loosing family members, feeling like an outcast, and even getting in trouble in school. From my personal life experience I didn’t connect with this book, but I have known of people that either lost a family member or someone close to them. While reading this book I imagined how hard it is to loose someone close let alone being a child must be 10 times as hard. Also, how hard it must be for a child to not fit in… This book really made me feel all the emotions each character was going through.

From Dell’s point of view some of the assumptions about children that this book made is that children are trouble makers. No matter what the circumstance is adults just assume that children are not capable of much therefore, they must have cheated. I do not agree with these assumptions, I believe that children are capable of many things when given the opportunity.

This definitely portrays reality. What this book portrayed can definitely happen in real life. Any kid can loose his/her parents. Any kid can feel like an outcast. Any kid can be a genus. Any kid can be seen as just a troublemaker. This book is understandable and can be used to help students understand their problems or what others are going through. I see this book being real helpful to students who have suffered lost. Also, can help students understand label and how those labels affect someones life.
