Comics…Bryan Compton

After reading my graphic novel, I would have to say that I feel it would be a great way to get students to read. A comic “does not happen in the words or the pictures, but somewhere in between” is what I was talking about earlier that everybody might have a different picture in their mind of what they are reading. Even McCloud thinks comics contain pictures that incorporate many of our senses, so given our creativity, we can gain an understanding of what the author is trying to convey to us.  I know that I hated to read when I was in school, but if I was given a graphic novel, I might have been into reading more. Since teenagers have access to many types of media, “…..some will find the classroom materials to be dull…..” so I feel teachers should try and create ways to get the students to enjoy reading.

To be honest, reading my genre series book was not that enjoyable. I did not like the book I chose. It might have been different if I had chosen a different. My other reading before this was much more enjoyable for me. Still, “Ruby Holler” is my favorite read thus far. I have not given up on graphic novels, like Dr. Jaxon reminded me; it’s not about what I like, but about what other students might like. I honestly believe that my future students will enjoy graphic novels and I will consider using them in my classroom.
