Whats the Word Hummingbird

Whats the Word Hummingbird

My name is Alyssa Herrick-Andres. I am 21 years young from San Diego, and I am a fourth year Senior here at CSU, Chico. I love the sun, sand, and surfers but there is something about this gorgeous campus and the vibe of the people up here in Northern California that I connect with. This crazy town definitely has a place in my heart. I have 7 siblings and am a proud member of 2 seriously ‘blended’ families; in which I contribute my molded personality to, and miss every single day. You can usually catch me out with friends, in a yoga/pilates class, at my job in downtown or in the library. I have an outgoing personality that has been steadfast since my kindergarten teacher labeled me as a “social butterfly”, which eventually progressed to “chatter-box”.

Reading is something that all people experience, witness, learn and need, to be a fully successful member of society. As Williams states after all research, “ in all areas of people’s home and community lives, there was reading and writing.” Which means that this concept of what a “reader” really is has been addressed in more cultures than our own. When one person refers to the other as “a reader” they are usually referring to a person who not only can read, but someone who enjoys reading different literary pieces, reads well and does so often. Williams mentions something similar in his article as well, ““Beyond decoding words and sentences we think of reader as a person who makes intertextual connections, who asks particular types of questions of a text, who reads at a particular intellectual distance from the text who thinks more about the texts meaning and analyzes its nature”. Personally, when reading outside of school requirements, I am reading online Rolling Stone articles or my astrological books. Unless I have found a teaching related article that interests me when scrolling through Pinterest, my reading does not usually directly correlate with school topics. I enjoy reading the Rolling Stones articles because of the exposure to GREAT journalistic writing techniques and descriptions that I can possibly use in an upcoming project or in my future classrooms.
