Crystal Arteaga- Weenies Series

Crystal Arteaga- Weenies Series

I am currently reading Invasion of the Road Weenies! It is such a short and interesting read that I definitely recommend this book being a read aloud book for a class. This book would be a great target for older grades such as 5th and 6th. The “warped and creepy tales” are what make this series unique. They are all short stories of things that would not happen in real life. There is so much imagination in each of these stories! The stories are all weird and silly in their own way. Each story has a child who is the main character. This makes the stories interesting and relatable to children.

On David Lubar’s website, he has a section specifically for educators. For the Weenies series, he has organized them in away that will allow you to find stories on any of the 400 topics he listed. He also has a list of literacy concepts where it will lead you to stories that act as examples. These literacy concepts include, alliterations, context clues, idioms, imagery, metaphors, onomatopoeia, personification, tone and third person point of view. This will be handy when you want to give your students specific examples of those literacy concepts.
