Jane Achtelik Blog 2

So far I am really enjoying reading the book “Reading in the Wild” I thought that ch 1 started off a little slow for me but by the end of the chapter it was starting to pick up. Ch. 2 however was a whole other story for me. I got so many go ideas from this chapter that I would like to use in a future classroom. On page 56 one of the ideas that I really liked was the idea that each class should pick out their favorite book and all sign it. This is such a cool idea because I feel like it gives the students a little ownership of what they read. Also it makes an awesome keepsake for the teacher at the end of the year. I also thought the idea of the book drawing was a really good way to draw interest to reading. Giving the students the choice and emotional ownership of the books they are reading seems to be a recurring theme in reading motivation. I am truly looking forward to implementing this with students in real life.
