From Donalyn Miller’s book, it is clear that reading is a huge passion of hers and she loves sharing books and all they have to offer. I think her encouragement of all types of reading is great because reading is about the reader’s enjoyment, not necessarily being at a certain reading level. It is important to allow kids to read what they are interested in and let them read at their own pace. The less pressure they feel, the more comfortable they will be with reading on their own and challenging themselves, while also pursuing a potentially life-long reading career. It is important because from their first years experiencing reading, it will either become a habit or a chore. Teaching reading, I am excited to have so many great children’s books to choose from and instilling students with a love of reading before they think of it as a task. I am afraid of kids already having a dislike of reading and not having the encouragement and support they need to read at home.

  1. I also feel that it is important to consider each student in order for them to think of reading as something enjoyable and not as a chore. I also think it is important to let students read at their own pace and actually enjoy their reading.
