Max W, A Mango Shaped Space

Max W, A Mango Shaped Space

Hey Leslie, I’m really liking the book and once I pick up the book it is hard to put down. Right now the book is a little slow but for some reason it is hard to put down. I think Mia’s disease is really interesting to read about but I honestly think it would be torture to live with it constantly bugging you. I think I would go crazy. How do you think you would respond to it?

As you can probably tell I am not the fastest reader in the world. It takes a little longer for me to read a story so I thought you might like to know that. And It has been hard to find time to read as much as I would like to.

  1. Hey Max!

Would it be cool if we just kept blogging with each other on this post for the rest of the semester? This way we don’t have to keep posting new ones and searching for one another’s blogs. It would be super helpful for me!

I’m happy to hear you like Mango Shaped Space so much! If I had a disorder like Mia’s I would probably be bothered by it once I knew how different I was from everyone else. However, I like to think I adapt well to new situations and accommodate for myself well so I would embrace my difference and channel it through an activity that empowers me, like Mia does when she paints.

I’m so glad you mentioned you’re not the fastest reader! Between my six classes, managing my team, and traveling to compete almost every weekend, finding time to read has been difficult so I complete level with you on reading slow. A lot of the time though, slow readers actually have great comprehension skills because they really soak in what they’re reading. I notice that I’ve been reading Mango Shaped Space a lot slower than I read Butter so maybe this time we can read at the same pace and finish the book together. We’ll just go with the flow and see what happens. I am hoping to finish the book by next week just to give you a heads up (I’m on page 101 currently).

One part I was interested in was when all the students in Mia’s grade kept asking her about her brain and questions about the rumors being spread were being thrown onto her. I can’t imagine the kind of stress she felt at that time. Processing whether or not the attention was good or bad would be difficult in my opinion. How do you think you would react if every student in school suddenly wanted to know about you?

    Leslie :)
