Disney portrays there fairytales with a “happily ever after” in the end. The main fairytales like Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and the Little Mermaid are all about them trying to find their “perfect guy” or in other words their “prince”. Disney movies have been getting little girls hopes up about finding the perfect guy for years now. Somethings that are also common in all these fairytales include some magic, a symbol of something important and a villain/hero.

When reading Snow White there were aspects of the story that were the same as the Disney version but there were also aspects that were different. One of the differences included the evil witch starting out as good. When the girl turned 7 was when the witch became jealous of Snow Whites fairness. This is when the evil witch started to become like the Disney version. She was on a mission to have Snow White dead. Another aspect of the story that was different was that the dwarfs didn’t play such a big role in the book as they did in the movie. In the movie they all had names that described them while in the story they were barely mentioned. Lastly the evil witch was invited to the wedding in the book while in the movie she wasn’t. All the differences were what surprised me in the story because I am used to the Disney version of all the fairytales. Its cool being able to read all these different versions of each fairytale and seeing just how something little can change the whole story.

The theme I got out of the story of Snow White was that evil will always be punished and true love will prevail. The witches mission was to kill Snow White so that she could be the fairest in the land but in the end she loses. Snow White ends up living through all the witches’ attempts at killing her and she even finds her own prince charming. Snow White got her “happily ever after” showing that true love will prevail.
