Comic and Graphic Novels- Chia

Comic and Graphic Novels- Chia

In Versaci article, “How Comic Books Can Change the Way Our Students See Literature: One’s Teachers Perspective” she argues that comic have help her students enjoy literature more than before. As she states, “One significant outcome of closure is that readers are able to sympathize and empathize with comic book characters in unique ways, as evidenced by my experience with the Callahan piece”.

In Scott McCloud’s talk on TED, he talks about comic illustration. Comic visions in time and focus on matching the captions to the drawing. It changes the direction in reading.

I found that the genre series that I read for this class has been an eye opening experience but, it was hard to read and follow compare to other reading that we have done for this class and my other outside classes. When I read the book it made me slow down my pace of read by not just reading but, also looks at each individual illustration as well. I plan to use comic and graphic novels to help my students with literature and reading. I feel that it will be a great start for my students to use when learning to write and being able to illustrate to match with their description.
