So much depends upon – Denise Leon
I believe that the poem is a humble description of how grateful the author is for what he is able to accomplish. He is looking out onto the landscape after a long day of hard work and is admiring the fruit of his labor. Three important objects in this poem: the red wheel barrow, the rain, and the white chickens-these every day objects that can easily be taken for granted are shown tribute in this poem. He realizes their importance on his own livelihood; Williams is indebted to them for he is dependent on them. The poem expresses feelings of gratitude and his admiration for the country lifestyle.
So much depends
upon the way you see yourself
when your body is bare
in front of the mirror
without a crutch to hold onto
