1. What do you think Williams sees in this poem (describe the image in your own language) and what do you think he felt about what he was seeing? Why do you think so?

I think William sees the importance of an ordinary tool. I think it relates to the fact that most people take for granted the little things in our lives. William sees something that most people wouldn’t fully notice or understand the very tangible affects it can have on our life if we didn’t  have it. He describes the wheel barrow in an environment that doesn’t spark any interest or fascination but tells you very directly that the red wheel barrow is important, to me this creates a very obvious distinction between the two, environment and object. This causes me to really contemplate the importance a wheel barrow could have.

2. Then, write an imitative poem, just as Jack did in Love That Dog, beginning with the words “so much depends upon…”

so much depends
upon

a flower decorated
sponge

wet and covered in
bubbles

besides dirty dishes and
cups
