Hi Trevor,
I am almost finished with my artifact. I am making a playlist that Steven Alper would listen to.
For the music, I actually found Manteca and Cubana bop by Dizzy Gillespie. My play list is composed of these songs:
Take Five by Dave Brubeck
Katea’s Dance by Gene Ammons
Jungle Strut by Gene Ammons
Barney Miller by TV Tunsters
Manteca by Dizzy Gillspie
Cubana bop by Dizzy Gillspie
I chose to make a playlist because Steven uses music to help him through his brother’s illness. He uses music to lift up his brother and lift up himself. He also uses music to raise money for his brother’s illness. Steven uses something important to him and uses it to help others.
Hi Trevor,
I just finished The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier. It was so good. I really like how the characters were portrayed.
My favorite character was Jerry Renault. I really liked how he even though he was assigned to only for one week, refused the chocolates for the whole semester. It showed bravery because, even though he was getting blackmailed, he stood strong.
My least favorite character was Archie Costello. He shouldn’t rule by fear and make kids do horrible things. He seems nice, but he is like a cobra. He is deadly and smart. The students and staff at Trinity should rise against the Vigils. They are like the kings of the schools.
This book really described how peer pressure can be used for bad. Jerry Renault was very brave because he stood up to the Vigils. They were scared and made him fight, which he refused to. He stood up for what he believed in and we should use this to motivate us to stand up for what we believe in.
Hi Trevor, I finished Butter by Erin Lange. It was a very interesting book. The concept really illustrated how our society has become about our outwards appearances. You don’t have to be skinny to be liked. You don’t have to be tall or have blond or brown hair but, our society has become so pressing with magazines and movies that we feel we have to be this way. Butter is obese so, he is feeling this pressure even more than everyone else.
My least favorite character is Butter’s dad. He completely shuts out Butter! No parent should ever do that to their child. His dad should have been helping Butter through his struggle. By staying silently, he was hurting his son.
Butter really was a fascinating book. It illustrates how messed-up our society and how bullying is a horrible problem in schools. I hope you enjoy this book. I really am glad you liked Drums, Girl, and Dangerous Pie!
