Diary of a wimpy kid Late Post

Diary of a wimpy kid Late Post

Diary of a wimpy kid book series are amazing! I had the opportunity to read all the books and I love them! They kept me laughing for hours. I am planning to buy the book set for my classroom. They are full of laughter and are easy to read. The books are full of imagination

These book series would be perfect for elementary school kids. It teaches younger kids about the importance of writing daily and how they can express themselves through writing.  The author of these series provide the readers and teachers with activities and lesson plans when reading the book in class.

Because it is a diary and the main character of this books writes in it all the time I plan to have my students write in a journal about anything that they want in it and they can share it with me if they want but they will not be required too. It will be for their own benefit. In my opinion I believe that kids would love to do this because it will help them relate and put themselves in Greg’s (main character) shoes.

Diary of a wimpy kid is amazing! If any of you have a little of free time during spring break you should read the diary of a wimpy kid series! I promise that it will make you laugh from the minute you open the book until the last page of the seventh book.

Reading in the Wild

Reading in the Wild

First of all I would like to say that I love the idea that Donalyn Miller presents creating students who are wild readers (lifelong readers). During this past summer I had the privilege of working at Woodrow Wilson elementary school for the migrant education Program. During the time that I worked there as an instructional paraprofessional I saw how the teacher that I assisted encouraged her students to read all the time. They had an hour each day to read anything that they wanted. The teacher called it D.E.A.R time (Drop Everything And Read). At first the kids weren’t very happy about it because most of them didn’t feel confident in their reading abilities but after a few weeks they didn’t even want to have recess, they wanted to stay in and read. Donalyn states in the book that “the more students practice, the more they enjoy and develop confidence in reading and the more likely they are to read in their free time” (p.9) I completely agree with that because I saw how kids loved to read by the end of the summer program. All they need is a little encouragement to keep practicing their reading.

I am most excited about seeing my students read all the time. Nothing in the world could be more rewarding that seeing a young person learning and reading. It helps them to be creative and open minded to new adventures and opportunities. It stimulates imagination. Most of us don’t read because we want too, that’s why I feel that sometimes our imagination and creativeness is not to its full potential. Personally, I am going to start reading a lot of children’s books so that when I have my own classroom I will know what kids like and how to make reading fun to them.

Kissing the Witch

Kissing the Witch

I loved reading this book! I liked it so much because it was a bit different from the fairy tales that I grew up with. The tales were about objects rather than the person which I thought it was really interesting and amazing. I feel that these stories allow people to relate more than the originals.

I loved reading all the stories but my favorite was Tale of the voice which is of course the little mermaid. I loved the little mermaid growing up. I really liked how Donoghue gave a lot of hints about the ocean and I thought that it was very interesting how all along the little mermaid had her voice she just chose not too used it. Another thing that was really interesting to me was how the witch really didn’t have magic powers it was the little mermaids choice not to speak even though she was told that she couldn’t.

Tale of the rose was also one of my favorite stories because I love how the rose was a symbol for love or a person like we had discussed in class. A person can be as beautiful as a rose yet full of thorns for life’s obstacles.

I think that the author title the book kissing the witch because it is not an average fairy tale book with a happy ending.  The girls in these stories are seeing their inner witch. And too look past appearances.

I am very sad that our fairytale unit is over!
