1) My name is Samantha Faye Roberts. I guess my story starts when my mom had me at the mere age of eightteen. I grew up alongside her. When she went to college, I went to preschool. I moved from city to city with her and while she figured out her life, I figured out mine. She’s been my role model, muse, and best friend since day one. My mom is everything I aspire to be in life. She is selfless, strong, independent, and intelligent.

Coming to school eight hours away has been the first time in my life I have been completely on my own. This experience has shown me a lot of the qualities she possess have rubbed off on me (even if they are flawed versions). So to answer the question “who are you?” I am my mother’s daughter.

2) People put so much pressure on the word “reader”. I believe anyone who can read is a reader but there are different levels to being a reader. Enjoying reading is the utmost highest level because people who enjoy what they are doing will likely do it often. Williams article points out the way popculture labels readers is the way society has been brainwashed to view readers. In my own classroom, I want to make sure students see reading as a positive identification.

Outside of school, I love to read, getting lost in a book is my favorite way to ease the stress of everyday life. It’s my escape. Inside of school, I hate reading. I have to twist my own arm just to pick up a textbook. Caged by the required pages and (most of the time) the subject matter. Out of school, I mostly read nonfiction. I truly believe no matter what kind of book you read, you will gain knowledge from it. A lot of time in class I will find I have a small background knowledge on the most random things  from books I have read. Books let me experience things I may never have a chance to actually experience.
