Cassandra Reveles: ABC’S Fairytale Book

Cassandra Reveles: ABC’S Fairytale Book

For my first make I decided to create an ABC’s book. I wanted to stick to a book because thats ones of things I think about when I picture a fairytale. I wanted to add a little twist and add a bit of Spanish into the book. I must say it was a bit hard to find a fairytale to represent each letter of the alphabet. It was also hard  naming most of this fairytales in Spanish and that why I only did a few. I don’t think I had ever heard of an ABC book and thats why I decided to do one. It was a bit more time consuming than I thought it would be and it took took a bit of research.

On another hand I think and ABC book would be a good way to have a the classroom collaborate and create one together. For instance if they are reading fairytales books, each student can be given a letter and each students will choose a fairytale to match their letter. They can also add a sentence explaining their drawing and how it connects to their letter. They can color their page and personalize it. At the end it’ll be a book create by the entire class. Depending on the grade level they expectations can be changed to test their knowledge and understanding of what they’ve been taught.

Cassandra Reveles: The not so innocent Little Red Riding Hood fairytale

Cassandra Reveles: The not so innocent Little Red Riding Hood fairytale

Growing up, I had heard about Little Red Riding Hood but I don’t actually ever remember reading. I just simply knew the summary of the story. I think for this reason I never had the opportunity to analyze the reading any further other than the fact it is a fairytale.

Little Red Riding Hood is no joke. The main character is painted as a little dumb native girl who doesn’t know any better but to talk to strangers and give them exact directions as to where she’s going. She apparently is an airhead who takes the longer route to her grandmas houses and also gets distracted by the things she sees which makes her gets to where she needs to be at a slower pace.

The kind of human struggles I got from the bugs bunny version of little red is the fact that primarily women and girls of all ages are unsafe walking alone. Tim Seibles states in the text, “Didn anybody ever tell you it ain’t smart to stick out in wild places?” In other words he is saying its not safe for a little girl to be wondering the streets alone. Tim also mentions if it is the moms idea for her to be out and about. It is a parents duty to teach these concepts of safety to their children. Then at the end bugs bunny basically tries to seduce little red to coming back to his place because it’s safer. The character of bugs bunny is of a man who I trying to lure a young girl but trying to build trust and then taking her to do who knows what.  I actually think this text has a very clear message which is don’t talk and trust any strangers because we never know their intentions.

CASSANDRA REVELES: THIS IS REAL, THIS IS ME :)

Hello everyone, my name is Cassandra Reveles. I am currently a senior here at Chico State. I was born and raised in Southern California in the small city of Lawndale. I come from a strong hispanic background. My parents come from Mexico and have made sure to teach my siblings and I the importance of our culture. I love to go out and explore my surroundings and I also enjoy baking. I am the first in my family to attend a 4 year university, which means the pressure is on for me.  I have always had a love for children. I like to see their growth in learning and all the funny little things they have to say, they really speak their minds. Growing up I was always surrounded by many little kids and that’s where my love for children began. Throughout elementary school all those amazing teachers I had inspired me to become a teacher. For the reason here I am  enrolled in this english class pursing my BA in Liberal Studies.

To be reader from my point of view is a person who enjoys all times of reading whether it d reading post on the internet or finding yourself lost in chapter and chapter of your favorite book. The one thing I think really makes a reader a “reader” is someone who retains the information they read and actually gain something of their reading. My daily reading consist of  social media post, subtitles, recipes, books by Rupi Kaur, text messages, menus, and reading the street signs. I would say I do read differently because my mind set changes when I know I have to read for my classes and assignments rather than for my own enjoyment. Lately, my reading assignments have been really interesting and more relatable and that made me enjoy do my reading assignments. I’d say that sometimes my outside reading does connect with my school reading depending on what it is that I am reading. For example I find myself researching about teaching and that goes hand in hand with my school reading because that’s what these classes are preparing me for. All in all, I think that we are all readers and that even if you lose your love for reading you find it again like I am slowy doing.
