Paz Martinez Series book and Millers

For my readings I choose to read A series of unfortunate events because it seemed like an interesting book. I have to admit that the book caught my attention because of the way the author describes it to be a misfortunate story for the Baudelaire children. I have never read or heard of this book until now to be honest. The story is about 3 small children who are very intelligent and unique. Violet who is an inventor, Klaus who loves to read, and Sunny who is the youngest of them all. The story starts out by terrible news for the children from Mr. Poe who worked in a bank and was a friend of their parents. Their house had burned down and nothing was left behind for them. They were very shocked to hear the news. They were next placed under Count Olafs watch. And their life there was also miserable. Count Olaf did not care for these children all he could think of was how he could get his hands on the Baudelaire fortune. He tried everything to get away with it. But his theatrical show came down. One thing I loved about this book is that it uses big words for children and then explains them also. I started watching the series of this book and some events are a bit off in the movie but I actually liked it. I think this book would be something that maybe a 4th or 5th grader would enjoy reading.

In Miller textbook there were many great things that caught my attention. One of the first things that sounded intriguing to me was how she mentioned that reading has made her become a better teacher. I thought this was absolutely right because as persons we expand our vocabulary with just reading different books. Something else that I really agreed with was that as teachers we should cut down the time frames that our students should be reading. Perhaps having them read 10 to 15 minutes 3 or 4 times a day instead of trying to get them to read  for 40 minutes straight. We tend to get bored and just keep reading without realizing that we really aren’t understanding what we read. So we often find ourselves going back and rereading a second time.

For my make I decided to do a map for little red riding hoods story. I thought this was a good idea to incorporate into a classroom as an activity for little kids to do. This will help them create their own map and their own ideas on what they imagine the story to be like. It’s a great way to open up their imagination and express themselves!

As we all know Little red ridding hood has been around for many years. It has been a worldwide favorite fairytale for most of us. Although there are many different versions of this story I think they all have a big theme to it which would be not talking or avoiding strangers. These could also have many other interpretations as well aslo which I will mention later on.

In our first story by Charles Perrault we saw how little red riding hood is not precautions and careless because she gives out her grandmas exact address to some stranger she doesn’t know which would be the wolf in this story. This was her first error  because as kids we were always told never to talk to strangers or to give out our personal information like red riding hood did. We have to admit that was something pretty dumb to do right. But moving forward there was something else that caught my attention in this story. When she arrives to her grandmas house the wolf asks her to do something that would defined be inappropriate even now. He asks her to take her clothes off before getting into bed with him! I think we can sense a sexual assault here. Sadly it’s something very common that is happening a lot now a days here in America and in other countries and that is called rape. In conclusion to this story we see how important it is for us to never talk to strangers and to never take your clothes off if some one asks you too. I thought this story was also inappropriate for a child age 3-9 or even for a 10 year old.

Brothers Grimm tale was also one of my other tales that caught my attention as well but again I also thought it was to harsh and violent for a small kid. In this tale her mother asks the little girl to stay on track and to not wander off her path. Well it was something clearly that she did not do after talking to the wolf who convinced her to pick some flowers after telling him where her grandmother lived. As kids we always want to do things our way without realizing that our parents advice are for our own good.

Overall as a lesson for the kids I think the main goal here was to alert these kids that they shouldn’t be wandering alone in woods or in any other places. Secondly they should never be talking to strangers whom they don’t know and to never trust any one by giving their personal information out. Thirdly I think that us as adults should always talk to our kids and make them aware that no one should ask them to take their clothes off!

1) Hello everyone! My name is Paz Martinez. I’m 22 years old but will be 23 in a couple of weeks. I consider myself a local since I was born and raised near Colusa, Ca. I am the daughter of 4 no brothers just sisters. I will be the first college graduate from my family so that makes me pretty excited! I’m a transfer student from Butte College and I got to say this was a major change for me since Butte was way smaller than this. I looked pretty dumb looking for my classes all over campus! Not to mention I almost got a parking ticket last week for parking somewhere I wasn’t supposed to! Any way I want to teach anywhere from 1st to 5th grade because I definitely don’t think I want to deal with high schoolers or middle school just because I know how rude they can get! At the beginning of my career I was unsure if I really wanted to become a teacher because I always thought I would never have kids. But after becoming an aunt to 2 lovely nephews it all changed! I knew this was where I wanted to be at. So here I am.

2) A reader to me is someone who is passionate of what they read whether it be novels, fiction, nonfiction, etc. Some one mentioned last time in class that readers are also those who read signs, directions, social media, receptors, etc. I never really thought of it that way so it was something new . I usually never read outside of school unless I’m really bored and have nothing else to do. I remember that I always used to read everywhere I went but as I got older I just didn’t have enough time to do so I guess. Although I can spend hours on social media and read many different articles on there that don’t really connect to school I mean some may but other may not. One thing that caught my attention from the article was when the author mentioned that some readers may not understand what they read the first time. I find this to be relating to me at times. I may find my self reading something at the last minuete and just focused on to finishing it but once I’m half way through I realize that I did not understand a word of what I had just read!
