Hi Kathleen! I am so glad you got back to me Kathleen and for your information I am loving Counting by 7’s and I do see a lot of similarities between Counting by 7’s and Out of my Mind. I do see that between Willow and Melody that they have some difficulties that they don’t fit in, that they don’t have very many friends and I can’t tell you how much that every time I read a book like Counting by 7’s and Out of my Mind I can never put it down and my minds wanders to a different world one where it can see the differences and the similarities between the books.
I see that Melody and Willow have some differences to and similarities but what I see is that they are put into groups like Melody is put into the disabled group that she can’t be smart that she can’t do anything , but guess what she is smart and just because she may be in a wheel chair doesn’t mean that she isn’t smart and sometimes it really bother me that people as soon as they look at someone they always think something about them.
Now what is see in Willow is different then what I see in Melody what I see in Willow is a smart , beautiful , and hasn’t gotten a chance in the world. She hasn’t found her place yet they want to put her into a category like either she is a Misfit, Oddball, Lone Wolf, Weirdo, Genius, Dictator but what the people haven’t noticed is that no one can be in a category and you can’t just force people to be in a category. These people like Dell Duke and Melody’s teacher they want to push away the girls or put them into category’s and they just have to figure out that not everyone belongs in a category and not everyone can be like everyone else.
Another thing I see is that The Giver is kinda of related to these books cause in Out of my Mind they want the people to be smart an when they see Melody they push her out right away and the don’t give her a chance. Now when I look at the Giver I think of this book because in the giver they all think the same and they want them to think the same to have no rights to think differently and guess what that’s messed up and they don’t even notice what there really doing say someone took away my rights I would go against them and ask for my rights back. What I have realized is that the people in the Giver is that they don’t realize that they don’t have rights and that they think the same as anyone else. My point being is that they may not have rights ….which bothers me but since there happy I guess I can’t blame them .

P.S I want to thank Kathleen for giving me some of the ideas about connecting the two books together! Write back soon!
