Divergent Series-Chia Lor

Divergent Series-Chia Lor

I want to start off by saying “I love my series!” It’s very captivating. It makes me want to read more and more to see want happens next. I finished the first book Divergent and just started reading the second book Insurgent. It makes me so anxious to see what will happen next. This book is about a girl, who is labeled divergent because she didn’t fit into any of the factions in her society. It is very dangerous to be a divergent. As she is placed into the Dauntless faction, she finds out that the Erudite wants to take over. Tris and Four, the main protagonist along with her, are the one who knows about the plan and is on a mission to save the society from being taken over. I haven’t finished the series so I don’t know if there’s anything I dislike about this book but, so far I like this book.

I believe that this book will best fit for teens and older people but, not so much for younger children. If I was to use this book in a classroom, I would most likely use it for plot because this book has an outstanding plot. It can help students understand the basic structure of writing short stories.

Reading in the Wild- Chia Lor

Reading in the Wild- Chia Lor

My take-away ideas from the Miller text so far are that we have to teach and assess reading in our classroom as a path to lifelong reading habits. Children who see themselves as readers are more successful in school and out in the real world. They tend to outperform children who don’t read much. As a future teacher, we have to help our students become wild readers as Miller likes to call them. Some characteristics of lifelong readers as Miller focuses on are that wild readers dedicate time to read even when they have hectic lives. They have reading plans. Plans to read beyond what they have in mind.

I am very excited about teaching reading because I, myself loves to read. I question myself, how should I teach reading? It can be complicated or easy depending on ways how you engage your students into reading. But after reading some ideas from Miller I do feel more confident to teach reading to children. It also brought in a lot of ideas for me how to structure and involve my students as wild readers. I don’t feel that I am afraid to teach reading though it can be challenging. I look forward to it as a future teacher. I am ready to take on the challenge.

Kissing the Witch: Chia Lor

Kissing the Witch: Chia Lor

1)    My favorite story was The Tale of the Rose because it caught me in a surprised. Who would have thought to give this story a who different ending. It is a brilliant idea though i must say. It gives the reader a different view point to look at. Referring back to the original story of Beauty and the Beast, the Beast turns out to be a man behind a curse spelled and in this story the Beast turns out to be a woman behind a mask. I am not sure what captures in this situation we can see in woman in today’s society. But something that I can pull out of it is that sometimes women cover up themselves with makeup or the clothes they wear to avoid things they don’t want to accept.

2)    The author title this book Kissing the Witch  because the last tale is written from her perspective and it sounds logical enough to name it her story and not the stories of the ones we know.
