Weeks 10-12 (April 5-23)

Weeks 10-12 (April 5-23)

April 6

In class:

  • Peer feedback on literature reviews
  • Talk about data collection
  • Get started on Paper Start 1 (use our articles in Perusall: how do they start their research papers? Here’s the most recent thing I had published too)
    • Start with one of your sources that provides an overview
    • Start with some history of the issue
    • Narrate a opening scene of a classroom
    • Explain how you became interested (is there a story to tell about how you were interested? An event you can narrate?)
    • Give an overview of the approaches or argument
    • Let’s talk about “a road map” for the reader early in the draft: in this paper, I argue that/I analyze/I explore…I start by and then, and then, finally I…

To Do before next class session:

  • Paper Start 1
  • Data collection (interview (individual or group), artifact analysis, survey, field notes or observations, stats)
    • Primary source (your data) and maybe secondary sources (you find more research written by others)

Example interview protocol

April 13

Paper Start 1 due (share link to Google Doc in Currents Community)

Data collection should be completed by the end of this week. If you had it by today that would be even better.

In class:

  • We’ll write Paper Start 2
  • We’ll get the sections of the inquiry paper organized for our drafts next week. Link to a template
