WSPN: 5-year old Kate starting her story…the only way to spell Once Upon…

Once upon a time, we set out together in a liberal studies capstone course…

On this page, you’ll find links to weekly plans. You can also access from the drop down menu on this page. I’ll release the prompts, activities, instructions every two weeks: I’m hopeful that two-week chunks are a little more manageable to both read and do. Feel free to email me with any requests for changes to this format: ideally, I hope you can find things easily. Please let me know if that’s not the case. 😉

Major assignment due dates can be found on the assignments page and on My Calendar. We may decide together to adjust due dates, depending on your research plans (and best laid plans…).

New weeks will appear in the drop down menu above. Links to prior weeks will be archived below as well.

We’ll also build some routines to support our work: meeting in research teams (Zoom), writing weekly research memos (Currents), reading weekly (Perusall). I’m also imagining this as a rough semester timeline:

  • Weeks 1-3: getting situated, building our community, reading broadly about issues in education, exploring our curiosities about education.
  • Weeks 4-7: developing research questions, reading in our areas of interest, ending week 7 with the annotated bibliography (March 9). Maybe starting data collection (interviews, surveys, textual analysis, case studies…depends on your research question).
  • Weeks 8-9: data collection (fur real though). Analysis work with data, drafting lit reviews.
  • Weeks 10-11: lit review due (March 30), feedback loops, trying out paper starts for our inquiry papers (Paper start 1 due April 6; paper start 2 due April 16).
  • Weeks 12-15: inquiry paper draft due (April 20), lots of feedback loops, starting work on our remix presentations.
  • Final’s week (TBA): share with a public audience.
