This is real this is me: Sarah Roberts

 

Hi, my name is Sarah Roberts and I am a sophomore this year at Chico State. I grew up in Orange County and am the middle child of 3. I love going to concerts and spending time with my friends outdoors. My favorite food in the entire world is suhsi even though most of the time I can’t really afford it. I have always had a love for kids and teaching. I hope to teach second grade one day. One reason why I want to teach second grade is because of how amazing my second grade teacher was. She had such a huge impact on my life and I will never forget her. I hope my future students feel the same way about me one day. I also worked as a surf instructor this summer with kids from first through third grade and fell in love with that age group. I am very outgoing and love making friends and have really enjoyed my time at Chico so far.

 

To be a reader means different things to me. I think this is primarily because I do different types of reading everyday. Outside of school I read for enjoyment and I don’t overanalyze or go in into depth about the books I am reading. When I read for school I am reading to understand the subject and am often underlying and annotating in order to better understand a subject. I think everyone is a “reader” we are all reading all the time everyday from text messages to street signs. Some would classify a “reader” as someone who is reading books all the time on their free time but I disagree. I think everyone is a reader and how much or how you read doesn’t define that term. One thing I took away from Williams article is the idea that as soon as you hit around middle school the seperation between “good” and “bad” readers is formed. I always believed after this age that I wasn’t a good reader but I actually was I just did not read as fast as the others in my class. I found this part of the article very interesting.
