For my series book I chose the Percy Jackson series. Percy is a twelve year old that has a hard time in school. He’s been kicked out of every school he’s ever been to. He has learning disabilities. The book describes him as a good kid who seems to make big mistakes through almost no fault of his own. He just has bad luck. It turns out he doesn’t have learning disabilities and all the bad luck is because he’s a half god. I would recommend this book to a student who seems to be down on his luck, someone who means well but is not sure how to act on it. In the books a lot of responsibility is put on Percy, he does not necessarily want it but he takes it on and does his best. I think giving this to a student who may be struggling with behavior problems would be good because Percy takes responsibility for his actions. He begins to do this after spraying another student with all the water in a bathtub. At first he is shocked that this could happen then he realizes it was him who caused it. There is a movie that was made after the book this could be good for a student who does not like reading, you could encourage him to read the book to compare to the movie or to continue the series so there’s no waiting for the next movie to be released. From what I read I really enjoyed this series.
