The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series contain some of the funniest books I have ever read. I loved reading these books, but I probably wouldn’t recommend them to many young girls. There are plenty of other books that I feel would be better for most girls. When I was younger I wouldn’t have appreciated them because they wouldn’t have been relatable. There are mostly boy characters and scenarios that boys would find funny and relatable. Even though it doesn’t teach boys good life lessons, it is extremely entertaining and I think it would be encouraging for boys to read and start considering themselves readers. Even though I wouldn’t suggest this book to girls probably, it might be a fun book to read aloud to the class. If I were to do that I think a fun activity that could be related would be a journal. I wrote in a journal in my second grade class and I still have it and I love looking back on it. I have drawings in it like how the books in the series has little cartoons and it has terrible spelling and grammar but it is understandable. I think it would also be beneficial as a teacher because you could look through the students’ journals and get a feel for their lives and interests and better understand them. You could even give the students prompts or just have them write on their own, but it would be a fun thing to start class with and I think most age kids would be into it.
