Snow White

Aspects not familiar:

• Father is still alive. No mention of him finding Snow or stopping evil Queen
• Liver and lungs instead of heart
• She ate a little bit and drank a little bit from every dish and cup. She didn’t want to over indulge on anyone plate. Snow tried every bed till she found the “just right” bed. (Do I detect a bit of Goldilocks and the Three Bears here?)
• Not until she awakes does she make the agreement to clean and maintain the house.
• Evil queen comes 3 times, 1) brings a corset and ties it tight, 2) a poisoned comb, 3) half a poisoned apple, the red side
• All seven dwarfs talk
• Prince charming doesn’t show up till the end. He asks for the coffin, dwarves give it to him, no true love kiss, as he goes down the mountain the coffin slips and bangs against the ground. The piece of apple becomes dislodged in her throat she wakes up.
• They marry and invite evil queen, force her to dance in hot iron shoes till she dies.

 

I am surprised most about the ending. The evil queen is supposedly so powerful and conniving but yet she just stands there like a deer in headlights when she walks into Snow’s feast. Than they make her their dance puppet. That doesn’t seem fitting if she could trick and poisoned Snow. Much like Disney versions the Grimm’s tales are essentially a happy ending. Grimm’s is just a bit more gruesome and not meant to be read before bed.
