The land of stories

The land of stories

I am in love with this book. The characters have interesting personalities and I never lose track of who is talking. I think that this would be good for middle schoolers. I would also give this book to a kid who doesn’t quit like reading. They could relate to Conner, because he is a student who has a stuff time in school, but you learn that he is much more then a bad student. In high school I don’t think I could use this in my classroom, but I would have it in my classroom library.

Reading and talking about it with other people?

Reading and talking about it with other people?

Something that has been resonating with me is Donalyn Miller’s concept of a reading tribe. First off, I love the idea of kids reading and talking about what they read. I never had that as a kid. I was always told to be quite and read my book, no one encouraged me to talk to someone else about my reading. I used to see reading to be a solitary action, but now i see it as a communal action. My fellow students could of become literary sponsors. I also love the idea of always having book on me. I just bought a kindle and I read it all the time now. When im waiting for a class or outside waiting for a friend I whip out my kindle and read some Game Of Thrones or some Land Of Stories. I have read more in the past month then I have in the past two years. Before this semester I would’ve never thought that just having a book near me would increase my reading habits, but it does and I love it.

Steven Ryan

Steven Ryan

Hello my name is Steven Ryan. I was born in philadelphia and have moved around the country since I was around nine. Now I happily live in chico and attend Chico State. While living in Chico I have been able to grow and embrace my nerdy side. I love anime, marvel, and dc. I even cosplay some of my favorite characters. In my spare time, when not watching anime, I love to read fantasy books and table top role play with friends. I think that sums me up pretty well. :)

Now my riddle (I’m not the best with riddles);

No step mother ordered me collect fire wood.

Cooks and hen-wives do not command me.

There are no doves that I can see.

I do have do father issues but none like you would believe.

Who am I?
