Lidia Leal: Blog 3

The series book that I am reading is Diary of a Wimpy Kid. This book so far has been an easy read and it has been funny. I think that kids that read this book might be able to identify themselves with Greg Heffley, the main character of this book because he goes through many situations that kids might go through while they are in school. For example, one of the situations that Greg is in right now is that his best friend just got a girlfriend and now he is lonely and is on the lookout for a new friend. None of the people that he meets are as good as his old best friend Rowley. I really like how there are illustrations to go with the text. This book would be good for fifth graders and above, maybe even fourth grade because it is an easy read. The content is really straight forward with a lot of humor. I think that this book could be used in the classroom to promote writing. Each student can have their own diary and decorate it. Students can write and have drawings just like this book. This way students are writing and also being creative.

Lidia Leal: Reading in the Wild

Lidia Leal: Reading in the Wild

Reading in the Wild has been an interesting book so far. This text made me realize how much time we actually have to read and most importantly reading does not always have to take place all at once. In some situations in the book, Miller mentions that even if you read for five minutes that still counts as reading. On page twelve there is a picture of a girl reading at Universal Studios while waiting for her lunch table. I thought this was really ironic because honestly taking a book to Universal Studies is one of the last things that I would think of doing. I thought the reading itinerary worksheet for students was an interesting concept. As Miller mentions this gives student’s self-awareness about their reading habits and what works best for them. I am most excited about introducing books to students that never thought that they liked to read. What I am afraid of is how to encourage and help students who do not read frequently and students who think of reading as something that they have to do because they are told to do so.

Leal: Introduction and Cinderella Riddle

Leal: Introduction and Cinderella Riddle

My name is Lidia Leal and I am currently a junior at Chico State. I only live about thirty minutes away from Chico, so I commute to school every day. I have an interest for nature and animals. My three dogs are very important in my life and they make a great addition to my family. My major is Liberal Studies with a bilingual option. In the future I would like to teach in a Spanish immersion school. In the past I have volunteered in a Spanish immersion school and I really enjoyed it. I was able to teach kindergarteners math and reading in Spanish. Ideally I would like to teach first or second grade. As for English 341, I am excited to read many books and expand my knowledge about different children’s book authors. I think this will help me in the future, in order to recommend books to students according to their likes.

Cinderella riddle

There are no two wives nor a great big fish

Dresses the color of seasons are not necessary

Nor coat of silver cloth

There is no cake; instead a bowl of lentils

Dads’ forgiveness at the castle is not an option but step sisters punishment is
