Counting by 7’s

Counting by 7’s

Counting By 7’s by Holly Goldberg Sloan wanted it’s readers to talk about diversity, poverty, family, typical school system, money, Willow and how she deals with loss. As I have made it known I did not like this book, which is probably why I am having a hard time typing this post where I am honest but not so blunt that I turn readers away from it. I was not fond of the book for a few reasons. One being that through the entire book the school counselor, Dell, shouldn’t have been a counselor. It just pissed me off that even though Willow proved herself time and time and again he chose to think of himself instead of her. When he learned of her tragedy he just gave her a book to read that reminisced her personal tragedy. The fact that in the end “Oh hey I just adopted you and now I’m rich” thing pissed me off. Pattie had her two children living in an unstable environment that was affecting them all physically and emotionally and then once she adopted Willow, she came out with having had enough money to move into a great place and start a stable life. Though it may not have been my cup of tea I encourage you to read this book due to its high star ratings and overwhelming positive feedback and award winnings.

This book does portray realistic plots for example; deaths, adoption, money issues, foster care, corrupt educational system, ECT. It’s believable to read for me. The connections I had with this book would be adoption. Though I wasn’t as old as her to comprehend exactly what was going on I can still connect with her.

So much depends on you…

So much depends on you…

I imagine a red wheelbarrow sitting in the field where there is nothing around it. I can see trickling raindrops lightly hitting the chair and creating a sound that resonates throughout your mind. It sounds as though it is a clock ticking.  Then pops up images of chicken that are waiting for the food this red wheelbarrow will produce for them. The excitement is over whelming for the chickens.  I think he felt a sort of appreciation for the red wheelbarrow and all the different types of duties it can perform.  It can be used as a feeder, dirt distributor, wagon to push kids in; ect the list goes on and on.

So much depends on what you choose to do in your life

So much depends on how you choose to live your life

So much depends on whom you choose to live your life with

So much depends on where you choose to live your life

So much depends on when you choose to start living your own life

So much depends on you, and only you making the decision how to live.

My idea I had was to make a Pinterest for the latest information about the up and coming movie based on the book, Hate that Cat by Sharon Creech. This hypothetical movie is coming to theaters soon! On this Pinterest page you will see the actors casted to play the main characters, script ideas, authors mentioned in the story, and also funny pictures! Enjoy

I choose…..Dauntless….wait!…No I want to be….Divergent

I do have to say that I loved this series :) I wasn’t very as interested in the second book as I was in the first. The third book did piss me off, but I would recommend it still because it really was a great story and it kept me wanting to continue to read all three books just to see what happens because of its appealing characters and twists and turns. I loved this book because unlike Twilight this is a story that does have a little romance but it’s really on the back burner and its based more on Tris and her journey to find out who she is and is willing to fight for what she believes is right even if she has to go against her own friends and family. Sometimes she would piss me off because she would put herself in unnecessary dangerous situations but overall she is strong and needed to do what was right. I know that because it’s so popular everyone is reading it right now from all ages but I really wouldn’t recommend it to young children. I think I would recommend it to mature 8th graders like my niece but I would have others wait till high school to read it. There are far better series like, Diary of a Wimpy Kid or Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, which are more suited for younger children. I really did like how there were Divergent characters that couldn’t be placed in a society. To be different and be able to choose which faction you wanted to be in was great to read about and the struggles of either choosing to be with your family, choosing somewhere you want to be, or choosing to be factionless is what gave me the motivation to keep reading.
